The Internet Archive’s Response to the Recording Industry Lawsuit Targeting 78 RPM Collection
Earlier this month, several prominent record labels filed a lawsuit against the Internet Archive and others for the Great 78 Project, a community effort to preserve, study and and promote the discovery of 78rpm records. Through this work, we have archived hundreds of thousands of culturally-relevant recordings on the now obsolete and brittle medium—used for teaching, research, and public access. Founder and Digital Librarian of the Internet Archive Brewster Kahle shared his statement in a blog post on our website. | |
Lacing Stories Up With the Library Collections
Lace holds long standing significance in U.S. history—signifying wealth and providing a way for women to supplement their family incomes. Mary Mangan and the New England Lace Group have worked to raise awareness of the historical impact of lace. Mangan used preserved lace collections and historic books on the Internet Archive to find social and economic data within the artifacts—an aid in piecing together additional parts of the fabric's historical significance.
