The power in artist Henry Fraser |
The paintings by Henry Fraser are beautiful and show how skillful he is with a brush. A multi-talented creative, Henry is an artist, motivational speaker and author of the book ‘The Power in You’ whose personal story reflects his belief in the transformative power of acceptance. An accident left him paralysed from the shoulders down after dislocating his neck in 2009, so all his paintings are made by holding a brush in his mouth. We had the opportunity to speak with him about his process, studio space and what art means to him. At the moment, he is working with Winsor & Newton Gouache and he said, ‘I’m pretty sure I don’t use the paints in the ‘right’ way, but when they dry, they’ve got a slight relief and solidity to them on the card paper I use that fits quite nicely with what I want to do, even though I fell into this look accidentally.’ While his story of perseverance in the face of physical adversity has served as an inspiration across the world, his embrace of artistic ‘accidents’ is also a lesson in the power of experimentation as you find your way as an artist. |
