A failed Republican candidate for the New Mexico state legislature described by police as an "election denier" was arrested yesterday in connection with a string of four shootings at the homes of state and local Democratic leaders, police said. Solomon Peña is accused of conspiring with and paying four men to carry out shootings at the homes of two county commissioners and two state legislators, Albuquerque police said. He may have been motivated by anger over his election loss in November, which Peña alleged was the result of election fraud, police said. He lost his state House challenge to incumbent Democrat Miguel P. Garcia by 5,679 to 2,033, or 74% to 26%. No one was injured in the shootings. |

Lisa Marie Presley's sudden death at 54 last week has put a spotlight on the rise of heart disease in women between 40 and 60. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight and smoking are among the top risk factors, as is family history. (Elvis had a heart attack at 42, possibly due to his prescription drug addiction.) As for heart attack warning signs, there are traditional ones, like breathlessness and chest pressure, but also nontraditional signs like neck and arm pain, migraine headaches and nausea. Doctors say women have a habit of putting their health last, and it's crucial to break out of that mindset and pay attention if they are feeling unwell. "I want this to be an eye-opener for women to recognize that heart disease is their No. 1 threat," one doctor says. Learn more here. |

The "Shotgun Wedding" star spoke on TODAY about combining families after she married Ben Affleck last year and her 14-year-old twins and Affleck's three children all moved in together. "It's been a really kind of emotional transition,” she said. “But at the same time, all your dreams coming true, and it’s just been a phenomenal year." Lopez's kids are also now catching up with all her movies, including her performance as the Tejano singing legend "Selena," which ends with a tragic twist the Gen Z'ers were not prepared for. "At the end of the movie, they were like, ‘Nooooooooooo!’” Lopez joked. Watch her interview here. |

Brendan Fraser shared some emotional words of encouragement for anyone who feels "like you're in a dark sea" when he accepted the award for best actor at the Critics Choice Awards over the weekend. Fraser won for his performance in "The Whale," a film about a gay man with severe obesity trying to rebuild his relationship with his 17-year-old daughter. Fraser, 54, said his career was "in the wilderness" when director Darren Aronofsky "found" him, and he hopes others take inspiration from his resurgent role. "I want you to know that if you, too, can have the strength to just get to your feet and go to the light, good things will happen," Fraser said. See his tearful speech here. |
