Is Portugal the next California?
[ltr]The number of wealthy Americans applying for citizenship or residency in foreign countries has skyrocketed over the past three years as US billionaires, tech entrepreneurs, and celebrities look to create a "plan B" for their families.[/ltr]
[ltr]Wealthy American are buying second passport as plan B) for their families and the reasons why they want to leave are pandemic (health concern), climate change, political turmoil and civil unrest.[/ltr]
[ltr]More than a dozen countries offer ‘golden passports and visas’ that allow wealthy foreigners to receive citizenship or residency in exchange for investing in the country. Austria, Malta, Portugal, Turkey are some of the popular countries.[/ltr]
[ltr]Portugal is the favored nation and is slated to be the next California.[/ltr]
[ltr]The five-year residence permit of Portugal is the most in-demand program among American investors. The golden visa for Portugal requires a minimum investment of $200,000 and an average stay of seven days a year. Residents can apply for full-time citizenship after the permit expires, but it can take three more years.[/ltr]
[ltr]Rich Americans want to leave a legacy for their children and grandchildren by moving to Europe.[/ltr]
