Today 6-3-2023 32 A Southwest Airlines flight filled with smoke and made an emergency landing after a bird strike.
A Southwest Airlines flight from Cuba to Florida turned back to Havana for an emergency landing yesterday after hitting birds and suffering engine trouble that caused the cabin to fill with smoke, airline and Cuban officials said. Flight 3923 was bound for Fort Lauderdale when the plane "experienced bird strikes to an engine and the aircraft's nose," a Southwest spokesperson said. Video shot from onboard the plane shows the cabin filling up with smoke. "Nobody could breathe. It was burning so much in the lungs," one passenger said. "People were just screaming. Kids were screaming." The plane landed safely in Havana and passengers evacuated the plane using slides. They were eventually bused to the terminal for another flight. Read more

More than two dozen cars of a Norfolk Southern cargo train derailed near Springfield, Ohio, on Saturday night, the second derailment of one of the company's train in a month, officials said. Unlike the Feb. 3 derailment in East Palestine, there were no hazardous materials on board the latest train, a company spokesperson told NBC News. No injuries were reported when 28 of the train's 212 cars derailed as it traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, from Bellevue, Ohio. The incident in East Palestine last month caused around half the town's residents to flee and has drawn concerns from the community over long-term health impacts due to the chemical spill.
For months, a new mom was told her stage 4 colon cancer symptoms were in her head.
Natalie Phelps, then 38, was in her third trimester when she began experiencing pain in her lower back and pelvis along with her rectum. Her pain worsened after she gave birth, but a doctor recommended she see a therapist, suggesting the symptoms were from the stress of giving birth during the pandemic and caring for two children during lockdown. Months later, Phelps had a colonoscopy and found out she had stage 4 colon cancer. “I was so rundown from being in isolation, from being in pain, from having this terrible birth that I almost just conceded to this idea for a moment. I said, ‘Well, maybe it is in my mind,’” Phelps said. "When I look back at those correspondences ... they make me really angry.” See her story here

Nebraska high school cheerleader Katrina Kohel was determined to end her cheer career with a bang, even if she was the last one standing. Just days before the 2023 Nebraska State Cheer & Dance Championships, Katrina learned that three of the freshman members of her cheer team at Morrill High School had quit due to personal reasons. That left Katrina as the only remaining member of the team, but that didn't stop her from participating in the competition. The crowd roared as Katrina performed a solo routine, determined to give it her all until the end. See her shining moment here
