Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said yesterday that the number of encounters experienced by the U.S. Border Patrol along the border with Mexico dropped by half since the Title 42 Covid restrictions were lifted last week. In the weeks leading up to the lifting of Title 42, the Biden administration braced for what was widely expected to be a record influx of migrants trying to cross the border. Mayorkas said yesterday that Border Patrol had about 6,300 encounters along the border Friday and about 4,200 on Saturday — a significant reduction compared to the number of undocumented migrant crossings before Title 42 ended. However, Mayorkas said on CNN's "State of the Union" that it's "too early" to tell whether the migrant surge has peaked. Here's the latest. |

Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo who lives with his owner in a rural village in Portugal, celebrated his 31st birthday on Saturday with a bash featuring more than 100 guests. Bobi, who is nearly the same age as his owner, Leonel Costa, 38, is the oldest living dog ever, according to Guinness World Records. Costa has cared for Bobi since Costa was 8, and he credits Bobi's longevity to his "calm, peaceful environment" and the fact that he has never been leashed while roaming the forests near his home (i.e., he gets lot of exercise.) Bobi also only eats human food and loves a good nap. “If Bobi spoke only he could explain this,” Costa told Guinness World Records. See more photos of the good boy (or good man?) here.

It's a world of Olivias and Liams, and we're just living in it. Olivia and Liam are once again the top baby names for girls and boys in the U.S., according to the Social Security Administration. The SSA, which has tracked baby names since 1880, released its list for 2022 and Liam is on top for the sixth straight year, while Olivia is enjoying a four-year reign. In fact, the only new name in the top 10 for boys and girls is Luna (thank you, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend). See the top 10 names of 2022 for boys and girls here. |
