Tens of thousands of revelers were waiting up to eight hours to escape the muddy Burning Man festival venue in the Nevada desert last night after heavy rains put attendees on lockdown for days. Plus, how to determine your "sleep personality" to help you get better quality sleep, and Al Roker shared a sweet moment with his granddaughter over the holiday weekend.
After being stuck in the mud and on virtual lockdown in the Nevada desert over the weekend, the revelers at this year's Burning Man festival faced an eight-hour wait to get out last night. The organizers said that roughly 64,000 people still remained at the venue yesterday afternoon. The 3,900-acre event in Nevada's Black Rock Desert became such a quagmire over the weekend due to heavy rain that organizers urged people to conserve food and water because the mud made it nearly impossible for vehicles to exit the venue. Some attendees walked more than five miles to reach the nearest passable road, including celebrity DJ Diplo and comedian Chris Rock. Here's the latest.

Steve Harwell, the lead singer of the rock band Smash Mouth, whose heyday came in the '90s with hits like "All Star" and "Walkin' On the Sun," died at 56 yesterday, his representative confirmed to NBC News. Harwell was reportedly in hospice care the weekend before his death, his rep told The Washington Post, and was in the final stages of liver failure. "Steve lived a 100% full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out," his rep said in a statement to NBC News.

He gave us advice on how to pick a walking shoe with enough support, emphasizing to avoid shoes that are too constricting. Our Shop TODAY team has 6 top picks for best walking shoes that were rigorously tested and came out on top of our inaugural Start TODAY x Shop TODAY Wellness Awards.
