| For the first time in the 88-year history of the United Autoworkers Union, its members are on strike against each of the Big Three automakers (Ford, GM and Chrysler maker Stellantis) at the same time. About 13,000 workers at three plants in Missouri, Michigan and Missouri were the first to walk off the job this morning. The three automakers failed to negotiate labor agreements with the UAW before their contracts expired at 11:59 p.m., resulting in the UAW's first strike since 2019. The union's roughly 146,000 members are seeking a wage increase of up to 40% over the length of the next four-year contracts, along with full pay for 32-hour workweeks, better retirement pensions and improved health care. GM and Ford stand to lose $2.5 billion and $3 billion in revenue, respectively, for each week a strike lasts, Goldman Sachs Equity Research previously estimated. Here's the latest. |

| More details have emerged about how escaped killer Danelo Cavalcante survived on the run for 13 days in Pennsylvania before being captured by law enforcement on Wednesday. He kept himself fed by eating watermelon from a farm, drank water from a stream and only moved at night, officials said yesterday. Cavalcante was able to shave off his facial hair with a razor he found in a backpack he stole from a residence, police said. At the time of his capture, he planned to use a stolen rifle in a carjacking to help him escape the state and flee to Canada or Puerto Rico, officials said. Continue reading. |

| Despite being rejected 11 times, José M. Hernández kept applying for NASA's training program until he was finally accepted in 2004 at 42 years old. He became a certified scuba diver, earned his pilot’s license and learned to speak Russian, all in pursuit of his dream of one day becoming an astronaut. Hernández grew up as the son of migrant farm working parents, whom he helped pick produce in the fields of Stockton, California. From those humble beginnings, he reached his lofty goal of making it to space in 2009 when he traveled 14 days as a crew member on the shuttle Discovery on a mission to the International Space Station.
