The Senate passed a stopgap spending bill Wednesday evening, averting a government shutdown at the end of the week. Senators voted 87-11, with 10 Republicans and Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, voting against it. New House Speaker Mike Johnson's bill passed the House of Representatives in a 336-95 vote Tuesday. It now heads to President Joe Biden's desk for his expected signature, and if signed, the bill will keep parts of the government, including the Agriculture, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs departments, funded through Jan. 19, and the remaining parts of the government, including the Defense Department, funded through Feb. 2.
