What is the secret of people who always get job offers?

[ltr]In the past one year, I have attended 8 interviews. I got rejected from the first 4 interviews and cleared the last 4 in a row. My husband on the other hand is someone who has seldom got rejected in any interview. We are equally qualified and have a similar work experience, yet somehow he used to nail every interview and I failed in the initial four back to back. in retrospective I have spent a good amount of time to understand the difference in our approach and what makes him more successful at cracking interviews. It took me a considerable amount of time but once I understood the difference, I have been successful at most of the interviews.[/ltr]

[list=q-box][*]The Vibe: This is crucial. The vibe you send out during an interview plays an important role. You might not end up giving perfect answers to every question, but if you have an overall positive and friendly persona, people would love to have you in their team. I am a reserved person by nature, who takes time to develop friendly bonds. My husband on the other hand is a jolly guy who doesn't think twice before flashing a smile and initiating conversations. The interviewers sense this. It is important to display a very friendly and approachable demeanor during your interview. Make sure you are at your cheerful best during an interview. It goes a long way in making a lasting impression.

[*]They are over prepared: It is not sufficient to be 100 percent prepared for an interview. Successful candidates are 200 percent prepared. It is just not enough to know the role and company well. You have to understand the numerous challenges the company is currently facing and have an opinion on solutioning. My husband spends hours to understand the core values of an organization and then hunts for experiences from past that reflect on those core values. It definitely does not help to have the same set of answers to behavioral questions for every organization you interview with. For instance- one of the companies I interviewed with was very particular in believing that- “Multi tasking is a myth and should be avoided”. However this is not the case with every firm. Certain organizations find it crucial to multi-task. It is important to focus on every small detail about the company and customize your answers to be best suited.. and this requires a lot of efforts. Prepare , prepare and prepare! I know friends who walked in casually and got a job.. but that is a rare case. In most cases, the candidate who is 200 percent prepared bags the job for sure.

[ltr]3. They have the confidence to say NO: I personally feel that decisiveness is one of the most attractive traits of an individual. Being able to be in a position where you very well understand what kind of a role and organizational culture you are seeking and would not accept anything but that is a great place to be in. The individuals who have the audacity to say NO to unreasonable Job expectations set during an interview are found to be more successful at cracking interviews. A clear mindset coupled with confidence make a great pair.[/ltr]

[ltr]4. They do not show desperateness: This is almost always true. There is a thin line separating passion and interest from desperateness. Though it is paramount to show great enthusiasm to work for an organization, but it is also important to not be super accommodating of everything they ask for. Following up too often after the interview may reflect that. Sending across a thank you mail within 24 hours is a good practice, but avoid following up before a week has passed. Successful candidates know this art of displaying the right amount of enthusiasm without coming across as desperate.[/ltr]

[ltr]These are the four behavioral traits I have noticed in every person who is known to be great at cracking interviews. Hope this was helpful.[/ltr]

[ltr]Cheers![/ltr]
