What we know about the four childhood friends from South Carolina who were violently kidnapped in a Mexican border town, and Fox News host Tucker Carlson comes under fire from Republican congressmen for downplaying the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Plus, a look at the "tradwife" movement, in which young women are embracing a 1950s housewife ideal as traditional homemakers.
The Latest
2 Americans are dead and 2 are back in the U.S. after violent kidnapping in Mexico, officials say.
Two people out of a group of four Americans who were shot at and kidnapped by gunmen in a Mexican border town last week are dead, Mexican officials said yesterday. Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown were identified by family members as the two who died. Two other U.S. citizens, identified as Eric Williams and LaTavia Washington McGee, were returned via an international bridge between Matamoros, Mexico, and Brownsville, Texas, yesterday, Tamaulipas state Gov. Américo Villarreal said. A 24-year-old man found guarding the victims was arrested. The four Americans were childhood friends who drove from South Carolina to Mexico so one of them could have a cosmetic medical procedure, McGee's cousin said. Here's the latest.
GOP senators rebuke Fox host Tucker Carlson for downplaying Jan. 6 attack as 'mostly peaceful.'
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Senate Republicans denounced conservative Fox News host Tucker Carlson yesterday for characterizing the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol as "mostly peaceful chaos." Carlson made the comments on his show Monday after airing never-before-seen footage of the Capitol on Jan. 6. McConnell called the move "a mistake," while GOP Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina blasted it as "bulls---." U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger also ripped Carlson for spreading "offensive and misleading conclusions." Unsealed testimony in a separate case involving Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems also revealed yesterday that Carlson privately texted "I hate him passionately" about former President Donald Trump, two days before the Jan. 6 attack. Cooking, cleaning and controversy: Why some young women are joining the 'tradwife' movement.

If you thought the days of the 1950s housewife putting on a dress and cooking and cleaning for her husband were a relic of the past, the "tradwives" of TikTok are gladly signing up for it. We spoke to women who are part of the group of mainly Christian, conservative, millennial and Gen Z "traditional wives" who are leaning out of the workforce and into homemaking. “I put my husband’s wants ahead of my own, and this has done nothing but benefit myself and my marriage,” one of them said on TikTok. The women shared with us what it's like to be a tradwife, why they chose that lifestyle and the differences among the community. Read the full story here
8-3-2023 TODAY 32 Should you take your shoes off at home? Here's what experts say.
Do you live in a "take your shoes off at the door" home or a "no worries, keep them on" house? While kicking off your shoes is a smart idea for sanitary reasons, experts say walking around barefoot for long periods can cause foot pain. However, that doesn't mean you should wear your "outdoor" shoes in the house, either. "More bacteria and more diarrheal causing bacteria is typically found on the bottom of your shoes than on a public toilet seat," a biomedical sciences professor tells us. (Barf). Experts filled us in about the best type of shoes to wear around the house, and we have 7 brands of indoor footwear, from sandals to Crocs, that you can shop here

We did not think you could fit a workout into the time it takes to boil an egg, but celebrity trainer Ngo Okafor (above) has proven us wrong! He showed us his "Hard-Boiled Egg Workout", demonstrating how to do four sets of moves in the roughly eight minutes it takes to make a hard-boiled egg. Squeeze in some lateral step squats, air punches and more while you're waiting, and then then have a healthy snack ready at the end. See the workout here

"Top Chef" star Padma Lakshmi has a quick and healthy way to make flavorful chicken tikka masala from dried Indian chilies, cumin, coriander and more. Marinating the chicken in lassi, a South Asian buttermilk, offers more probiotics and protein than other types of dairy while not having quite as much fat or calories as heavy cream. Back in 2009, Brenda Rivera texted the wrong number. Only a year later, she was married to the unwitting recipient of her message, and now they have six kids together. Brenda, 36, shared her serendipitous story of sending a Bible verse to the wrong number 14 years ago, only to have Isaiah Stearns, a total stranger, ask to keep the conversation going. He left her a voicemail the next day saying her verse helped lift his spirits. She lived in Georgia and he lived in Ohio, but they soon spent hours on the phone. He even went on a lunch date with her mom, who happened to live nearby. “She was like, ‘You’re going to marry this guy,’” Brenda tells Today.com. The couple will celebrate their 13th anniversary in June and share six children ranging from 1-11. “I feel so lucky," she says. See more cute photos of their family here
