11 banks to deposit $30 billion into First Republic Bank in a show of confidence in the banking system.

A group of nearly a dozen financial institutions will team up to deposit $30 billion into ailing First Republic Bank, in bid to shore up confidence in the U.S. banking system. Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase will lead the way, chipping in roughly $5 billion each, while Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will contribute about $2.5 billion. Truist, PNC, U.S. Bancorp and others will also contribute. The group of banks said their action "demonstrates their overall commitment to helping banks serve their customers and communities." First Republic’s stock plummeted in the last few days and the bank was teetering on the edge of a crash following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. All three had high numbers of uninsured deposits, sparking worry customers would withdraw their money.

Man’s best friend could lead to man’s worst sleep . A new study published in the journal Human-Animal Interactions has found that owning a pet can have a negative impact on your sleep. The research took into account factors such as race, income, age, gender, and body mass index, as well as whether a person owned a cat or dog. Quality of sleep was rated on a wide range of variables, including incidents of snoring, waking up in the middle of the night, and other behaviors. The study concluded that owning a dog could mean a higher chance of having a sleeping disorder and overall problems sleeping, while having a cat was linked to a greater chance of leg jerks while in bed. Brazilian television star Claudia Raia says she got the surprise of her life when she discovered she was pregnant at 55. At the time, she believed she was in menopause, which happens around age 51. Raia and her husband had undergone one failed cycle of in vitro fertilization and, afterward, they told themselves, "It wasn't meant to be." Then, a medical miracle occurred. Raia and Homem de Mello conceived naturally — the chances of which one doctor told us were "way less than 1%." Colleges are warning their students: Please don't binge on borgs over St. Patrick's Day.

College kids getting in on the latest campus drinking trend may have gone a little overborg. Ahead of St. Patrick's Day weekend, officials at Boston University and Northeastern University are asking kids to ditch borgs in favor of safer alternatives, noting the gallon jug concoctions make it hard to keep track of how much you've had to drink and can contain dangerous combinations of booze and caffeine. The warning came days after 28 calls for ambulances were made from off-campus parties at UMass-Amherst due to acute intoxication from borgs. As one doctor notes, some party-goers think borgs are actually a safer way to drink, but that's not necessarily true. BU puts it flatly: "We don't recommend drinking a BORG." Sacre bleu! America has a new favorite dog. This week, the American Kennel Club revealed that, for the first time in three decades, Labrador retrievers are no longer the top dog breed in the U.S. Instead, French bulldogs are now the country's favorite pups. "They’re comical, friendly, loving little dogs,” Patty Sosa, of the French Bull Dog Club of America, tells the AP. Frenchie fans also noted the little guys are city-friendly, don't require a ton of exercise to stay fit, and are unfussy when it comes to grooming. “They offer a lot in a small package," Sosa says.
