Russian authorities said this morning that they arrested American journalist Evan Gershkovich of The Wall Street Journal on charges of spying. Gershkovich was detained in the city of Yekaterinburg on suspicion of collecting “information constituting a state secret about the activities of one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex," state media reported. Gershkovich is the first journalist with an American media outlet to be arrested on espionage charges in Russia since the Cold War. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. In a statement Thursday, the Journal "vehemently" denied the allegations against Gershkovich. “We stand in solidarity with Evan and his family," the newspaper said. Here's the latest.

Narcan, the first over-the-counter opioid overdose treatment, is approved by the FDA.

For the first time, a key tool in preventing deaths from opioid overdose will be available over the counter without a prescription. Yesterday, the FDA approved Narcan, a nasal spray version of the drug naloxone, to be sold directly to consumers. Narcan likely won’t be available on shelves until summer 2023 at the earliest, per Narcan’s manufacturer, Emergent BioSolutions, NBC News reported. “Naloxone is a miracle drug,” Dr. Kimberly Sue from the Yale School of Medicine told Today.com. “It’s literally a Lazarus drug that prevents people from dying of an opioid overdose.” Here's how Narcan works, and when it should be given.

Pilot Taylor Hash, 21, was in the midst of just her third solo flight on her single-engine plane when she received frightening news from the control tower at a small airport in Pontiac, Michigan. Pieces of her landing gear had been seen falling off the plane in mid-air, so she would have to land without a front tire. As the nerves immediately set in for Hash, a soothing voice came over the radio. Veteran pilot Chris Yates was flying nearby and saw what happened. "Taylor, this is Chris," he said. "My daughter’s name is Taylor and I taught her to fly. We’re going to be just fine, kiddo." Yates helped guide her to an emergency landing that she pulled off without a hitch, earning an "Atta girl!" from Yates. "You can really tell how my voice went from frantic, 'What am I going to do?' to, 'OK, I can do this,' and that was 100% all thanks to him," Hash said on TODAY. See their story here.
